Join Orange County Department on Aging’s LGBTQ+ SRT for our monthly dinner and movie series.  Spring is right around the corner so we’re celebrating growth and renewal with March’s film Running with Scissors. As the son of an alcoholic father (Alec Baldwin) and a mentally ill mother (Annette Bening), young Augusten Burroughs (Joseph Cross) faces a challenging childhood at the very least. His life takes an unexpected turn when his mother gives him to her unorthodox therapist (Brian Cox), and the boy becomes a member of the doctor's own strange, extended family.


Co-hosted by Carolina Aging Alliance and Project EngAGE LGBTQ+ Senior Resource Team.

Celebrate! Oberlin Village Annual Spring BBQ

Friends of Oberlin Village is excited to invite you to the 10th annual Celebrate Oberlin event to honor the rich legacy of our beloved Oberlin Village community. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history and the leaders of North Carolina’s largest known intact settlement, founded by a free Black in 1868. Enjoy learning about Oberlin’s vast history by visiting over 14 education tables hosted by researchers, community leaders and FOV volunteers. This year’s event will take place at the new City of Raleigh park, Latta University Historic Park, preceded by the park's grand opening ceremony at 4:00 pm. Make sure you save the date and time on your calendar and be sure to read our April newsletter for additional information.

Triangle-April Recurring Activities

Wednesday and Sunday Morning Walk 'n Talk

Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24 and Sundays, April 7, 14, 21, 28, at 10 AM

Shelley Lake Park, 1400 West Millbrook Road, Raleigh

The eagles are once again nesting in their usual place, so for that reason, we will be returning to Shelly Lake for the month of March for our Sunday and Wednesday walks. Dates are Wednesdays, April 3, 10, 17, 24 and Sundays, April 7, 14, 21, 28.


Use 1400 West Millbrook Road, Raleigh as your GPS address. Make sure you use the entrance that's marked "Shelley Lake - Sertoma Arts Center" and not the smaller annex parking lot. We will meet at the trailhead near the arts center entrance.


As always we will start walking at 10:00.


Post-walk coffee will be at the New World Cafe's at 5900 Duraleigh Road, in small shopping center near corner of Duraleigh and Pleasant Valley Roads.


In case of inclement weather or if the wind chill is below 20 degrees, we will be walking at Crabtree Mall, meeting on the second floor near McDonalds. Coffee will be at New World Cafe, 5900 Duraleigh Road, Raleigh, NC


Make sure you check a weather app prior to leaving home so you know where to go. If we will be walking indoors, you may want to consider wearing a facemask. Regardless of our walking location, bring water to stay hydrated.

On the second Monday, April 8, the Women’s Group will meet for a lunch social in the back room of the IHOP at 1301 Kildaire Farm Rd in Cary, 11 AM-12:30 PM.

On the fourth Monday, April 22, the drop-in will be in person at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, 1801 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, at 10 AM (see Meetup for parking and directions).

4 North Blount Street, Raleigh

Every Tuesday,  April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 we will be opening the doors of 4 North Blount St, Raleigh, for In-person Coffee and Conversation from 10-11:30 AM. Come by for a beverage, light refreshments, and great conversation. See old friends and make new friends. This gathering is open to all. Some weeks will feature open conversation chosen by those present; other weeks we will have planned discussion topics. If your time allows, please plan to join some of the crowd for lunch at a restaurant nearby.


Note: Parking may be available in the lot, but do not park in any of the spaces reserved for ALS. Free parking is also available on New Bern Avenue immediately south of the building as well as Blount Street north of the building. Parking on Blount Street south of the building is metered parking.

The Green Monkey "Play Spades" Meetup

he Green Monkey “Play Spades” Meetup will be free play 3-6 pm every Tuesday of the Month, April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30.   Players are welcome to join in anytime during that time period.  There is no cost to participate, and everyone is welcome to come join the fun and socialize with friends and new acquaintances.  You can participate whether you are a beginner, average or accomplished player, or someone coming just to observe.  Spades is a very popular and fun card game that is easy to learn how to play.  If you have never played but would like to learn the game, our host Rusty and other participating players will be glad to teach the game to you.

Good News for People Who Like Games: Puzzles, Cards, and Chess May Help Reduce Dementia Risk.  


Parking: There is a parking deck (The Car Park) at 233 S. Wilmington Street located in the same block as, and only a half block from, the entrance to The Green Monkey. S. Wilmington St. is a one way street going north between Fayetteville St. and Blount St. From either street turn onto E. Martin St. and then north on Wilmington St. to enter the parking deck on your right just after turning.

A Walk on the West Side (of the Triangle)

This walk takes place on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:30 AM at Occoneechee Speedway, 320 Elizabeth Brady Rd, Hillsborough, across from the Vietri Pottery warehouse.


Lunch is at a downtown Hillsborough location at 11:45 AM.


For all walks and coffee/lunches please be fully vaccinated and boosted.
