Advocacy

Remaining actively engaged and ensuring our voices are heard is vital as we age. By creating spaces and opportunities for growth, we empower older LGBTQ+ adults to be authentic and age with dignity. It is essential that we know our voices are acknowledged and included in the planning process. We will not be invisible!

Understanding Advocacy: Supporting the Older LGBTQ+ and Queer Community

An advocate is someone who actively supports and stands up for the rights and well-being of others, particularly within the older LGBTQ+ and Queer community.
A white LGBTQ+, queer man dressed in a suit jacket is educating a large audience on effective advocacy for older LGBTQ+ queer individuals. He is dedicated to supporting the older LGBTQ+ queer community.
A door sign featuring three sections: male, female, and non-binary symbols on the left, an icon of a person in a wheelchair on the right, and beneath it, the word ‘Inclusive’.
A lively group of individuals is celebrating and advocating for visibility, using a bullhorn to amplify their message. Among them is a gay Black man proudly holding a pride flag, a non-binary person, a male and female of Latinx descent, and a woman with curly hair who is speaking into the bullhorn, passionately chanting, “We will not be invisible.”
The letters LGBTQ+ are displayed in vibrant pride colors, enhanced with a three-dimensional effect and shadow, set against a warm brown background.

Carolina Aging Alliance has representation on various boards, including Resources for Seniors, the North Carolina Coalition on Aging, and the Governor’s Commission on Aging, among others. Its members actively engage with senior services organizations, ensuring that LGBTQ+ voices are considered during discussions and implementation of services for older adults.
