Originally launched as the “Gay & Gray Initiative,” this program began in Raleigh in 2011. In 2014, we formed a partnership with SAGEUSA and adopted the name SAGE Raleigh. As new initiatives emerged, membership and participation grew significantly.

In 2019, we rebranded to become SAGE Central North Carolina, reflecting our broader geographical reach and enhanced services.

By 2022, we established Carolina Aging Alliance, Inc. Currently, we operate in two regions: the Triad and Triangle, focused on serving older LGBTQ+ adults throughout Central North Carolina.

We are proud to partner with SAGEUSA, the oldest and largest nonprofit focused on improving the lives of older LGBTQ+ adults. Established in 1978 in New York City, SAGE manages a national network of collaborators
